chemodenervation treatment for stroke spasticity

Chemodenervation: What is it?

Physicians use chemodenervation to reduce muscle spasms and spasticity in patients. Botulinum Toxin is injected into the affected muscles to relax the muscles.

The effect can last up to three months, relieving patients of hyperactive muscles that cause stiffness, tightness, spasms, and pain.

The procedure is performed in office and does not take long. Patients typically report only mild discomfort with the injections.

Patients with the following movement disorders may benefit from chemodenervation: stroke, MS, cervical dystonia, cerebral palsy, and Parkinsons.
